Introduction: Google, now a subsidiary of Alphabet, Inc. as of November 2015 is an American global technology company specializing in Internet-related services and products that include online advertising technologies, search, cloud computing, software, and hardware. Most of its profits are derived from AdWords, an online advertising service that places advertising near the list of search results (Wikipedia, 2016). Founded in 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page (Wikipedia, 2016), Google is the first search engine which became popular in the world (Fahad Sultan, 2013). Google was created to make it easy for users to find information on the web easier. Internet services have existed since computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1990. Quite a few search engines have been providing their services but no one has become as popular or recognizable as Google (Fahad Sultan, 2013). Google has changed the way the users surf the web, view and share information. This has made them a leader amongst search engines available on the web and also in the global technology front with revenue of over 75.54 Billion USD (Wikipedia, 2016). Essay about Disappointment in Kate Chopins Story of an Hour
Disappointment in The Story of an Hour The Story of an Hour is a short story in which Kate Chopin, the author, presents an often unheard of view of marriage. Published in the late eighteen hundreds, the oppressive nature of marriage in The Story of an Hour may well be a reflection of, though not exclusive to, that era. Mrs. Louise Mallard, Chopins main character, experiences the exhilaration of freedom rather than the desolation of loneliness after she learns of her husbands death. Later, when Mrs. Mallard learns that her husband, Brently, still lives, she know that all hope of freedom is gone. The crushing disappointment kills Mrs. Mallard. Though Chopin relatesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Mallard in everything she does. When Mrs. Mallard learns of her husbands death, she realizes that he will no longer be there to repress her; there will be no one, save her, to direct her will. Then, in a crushing blow, everything she has just realized and begun to look forward to is stolen from her grasp. Upon learning of her husbands death, Mrs. Mallard realizes that she is now free. She repeats the words Free, free, free! (paragraph 11) and feels her body come alive. Her pulse beats faster; her blood runs warmer; her eyes brighten (paragraph 11). Mrs. Mallard knows that from now on she can live for herself and no one else, that all sort of days...would be her own (paragraph 19). Mrs. Mallard sees the chance to live out the rest of her days for herself; she sees the opportunity to be her own person. Mrs. Mallard now looks forward to a long life. She had previously dreaded the years ahead spent under the thumb of her husband (paragraph 19). Now, though, Mrs. Mallard is someone who has much to look forward to and many joys to appreciate. This opportunity is taken from her just as her chance of freedom is taken from her when she learns that Brently still lives. When Mrs. Mallard sees Brently walk through the front door,Show MoreRelatedKate Chopin s Literary Creativity And Women s Independence1097 Words à |à 5 Pages Kate Chopin has become one of the most influential feminist writers of the century. Theories In Sustainable Supply Management -Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Theories In Sustainable Supply Management? Answer: Introducation The activity of, services, products and goods flowing through different stages of production, starting from procurement of raw materials- storage of the raw materials, inventory processes- processing and development of finished goods- storage of the finished or processed goods- transportation of goods or mediums of service to the consumption point, this whole process is known as the supply chain management (Heckmann, Comes Nickel, 2015). The objectives of the process include increasing the efficiency of production, faster dispersal of goods or service, production of quality products or service, and increased productivity for the company. The objective of this research is to understand the process of supply chain management in details with the help of a case study and then comparison with appropriate literature and articles on the subject. The organisation that has been chosen for the case study is Food Panda. Food Panda is a supply chain based company that has an online portal through which customers can book food online from the restaurant of their choice (Foodpanda.com, 2018). The process includes ordering in the Food Panda portal and the delivery executive will pick up the order and deliver duly within time. Importance Of Supply Chain Management And The Reasons Customers Will Choose Food Panda As stated by Shyam (2015), Supply Chain Management as per its name is the management of the supply in the chain of stages that take part in the completion of service or delivery of product. The author has stated that there are primarily three stages of supply chain, procurement, production, and distribution. In the case of Food Panda the procurement of order takes place from the websites part, and the procurement of the raw materials to prepare the ordered food takes place from the restaurants side. The food is produced. In this case, there is another stage of procurement when the prepared food is procured by the delivery executive. In the next step, the delivery executive produces a service where he transports the food to the customer. In the case of Food Panda the service and the distribution happens consecutively, as distribution is their main service. Supply and distribution along with logistics are not new concepts in human civilisation, as these have been happening from the ver y beginning (Christopher, 2016). It depends on the business how innovatively the concepts are utilised in a new way that can give an edge to the business over its competitors. The undeniable importance of the supply chain management in businesses have been duly recognised not very long ago (Christopher, 2016). Food Panda has utilised the innovation in supply chain management and used it in favour of its business. According to the authors of the article The role of management in the evolution of the company's supply chain supply chain managers has to ensure a high degree of co-ordination and synchronisation to keep the system running (Sorbi et al., 2017). This is especially true in the case of Food Panda where the team receiving the order has to co-ordinate the same with the delivery boy, and the restaurant who will start preparing the order. The delivery boy then picks up the order co-ordinating with the restaurant and then connects with the customer to complete delivery, this needs high precision, and synchronisation to complete. Theories And Models Of Supply Chain Management Supply chain management is a dynamic process and there are no fixed and bound rules or theories to be followed in this regard. There is a resource based view theory which gives importance to the resources which may take forward a firms ability of competition according to the article Supply chain management: An overview. InSupply chain management and advanced planning the author has pointed out (Stadtler, 2015). The theory states not all the resources are of equal importance and must be judged wisely. Touboulic Walker, (2015) have pointed out that there are not enoughnumber of theories about the Supply Chain Management process and the ones existing have gaps in their structure. The article also defines the sustainable theory of Supply Chain management. Monczka et al, (2015) have discussed about the channel coordination in the SCM process, which has an objective of aligning and synchronising the strategies of individual enterprises. There might be a number of multiple decision making horizons and information which is asymmetric and unstructured. There are multiple decision making situations in the case of Food Panda as well, when priorities in orders have to be understood when there is less number of delivery executives but more orders flow in. In the article The role of marketing channels in supply chain management the authors have pointed out that the lack of centralisation in decision making often leads to a situation of dilemma and doubt in various quarters and the overall performance may be affected (Kozlenkova et al., 2015). In the article Competition and Coordination in a Two?Channel Supply Chain. Competition and Coordination in a Two?Channel Supply Chain the authors have pointed out the duality in coordination and competitio n in cases where the supplier is same but the retailers may compete in order to gain profit. In the case of Food Panda various restaurants and Fast food shops may compete to get the first priority in the category of the same food. In supply chain management process the theory of constraints is also applied and researched in many articles. In the article Applying Goldratts Theory of Constraints to reduce the Bullwhip Effect through agent-based modelling the bullwhip affect is identified as one major reason for ineffectiveness in supply chain management. Bullwhip affect is the increased movement in the inventories of businesses in response to the demands of the market which may be increasing or decreasing. In the case of Food Panda the bull whip affect is a major probkem because even if there is less number of orders they have to maintain the same number of delivery executives and work force. In the article Quantitative models for sustainable supply chain management: Developments and directions the authors have pointed out to the quantitative models of Supply Chain Management process and how can they be used in sustainable supply and distribution. The triple bottom line (TBL) or the integration of social aspects with other variables like the environmental aspects taking consideration of economic situation. SCM has evolved with time into not just a physical flow of gods but into complexities of decision making. In the case of Food Panda this is very evident because even the delivery executives have to take part in certain decision making. Value Supply Chain Process And How The Company May Deliver Value Proposition The best value chain concept in supply chain management is enforced by the speed, quality, cost, and flexibility. All these aspects are important for the theoretical perspectives. The organization always wants to deliver proper value to their customers. The value may be in terms of product, quality, cost, availability, and choice. The market extension can create competitions and prominent theoretical aspects of strategies models enhance better business chances for the organization. The behavioral change, in theory, can also mould the product dimension and supply chain management has taken this responsibility to open up the business market for contingency categories. As mentioned by Muysinaliyev Aktamov (2014), There are different theoretical perspectives allocated for the business. The transaction cost economic theory is one of the best values in supply chain process and ensures customers to buy their products. Agency theory is another aspect of cultural enhancement that aligned wit h the business opportunism so the market enhancement can sustain. As narrated by Martnez-Jurado Moyano-Fuentes (2014), Resource dependency and competitive alignment is the key aspect of the strategic development of the organization. The social capacity theory is another aspect shared the goals, value, and experiences of improved product performance. If products can create a better place in the market and socially acclaimed by the people then it would be easier for the company to promote that product in the market. The basic blend of performance and strategic values are important for strategic changes in the organization. In case of improved values, better goal and circumstances are the key factor in this process and that creates a good chance for business opportunities. Optimization Method Of Supply Chain Management There are some traditional methods and techniques for supply chain management process. These traditional methods are basically focused on the financial measures and return on investment. The rate of return and net present value has been declared in that optimization method and that evaluation method suited for the newer generation. Flexibility is service system is important for business operation perspective and will likely enhance the customer expectations for innovative products and service (Jain et al., 2010). Customers always want a better quality of the product so better financial support is also needed for the perspective. Innovative technology is also needed for that process and strategic planning is the main thing that better supply organization. As commented by Stadtler (2015), Information must be readily accessible to all companies in the supply chain process and the business procedures should be organized in a mode to make full use of this information. However, as these ar e problematic to amount or practice as a guideline to monitor development, more effective dimension methods, and indexes were advanced (Belin Forc, 2012). On a more operative level, the key presentation indicators are total costs, excellence and central times in the supply chain. Survey of presentation measures presented that cost and customer receptiveness to rule as the most frequent declared measures. The outline and practice of supply change framework help companies to improve presentation across the whole supply chain process in an efficient method and so that key performance indicators develop the fields in a positive way. Supplier Relationship Issues With Global Customers Customer satisfaction is an entire presentation for staying well-informed in a modest environment that can be attained only by rapidly answering to customer requirements. Effectual consumer response (ECR) is a supply chain management approach that endeavors to discourse the inadequacies in the supply chain are important for this occasion. Customer relation is the most effective issue for supply base management practice and produces some competitive edge for better customer drove driving policy (Ashby, Leat Hudson-Smith, 2012). For the long-term relationship, companies performance matters and effective performance productivity is the key aspect of that designing method. There are some issues in logistic like planned routes, environment policies, iterative approach for distribution and making a good relation with supply chain management is important for the development of the relationship with global customers (Touboulic Walker, 2015). Global customers are important for the company t o stretch their business market externally. Trading issue and market competencies can be judged by the organization if strategic benefits are aligned with outsourcing decision. As discussed by Fayezi, O'Loughlin Zutshi (2012), Sometimes franchises are taking this responsibility to channelize their market and company is also flexible to make them control over then business partially. They can take the brand name of the company and deliver only those products that manufactured by the company and also promise to maintain the brand image of the company and this is going to be the biggest outsourcing for the organization to make a good profit from different sections of business and this would be happened only because of effective supply chain. Sustainable Supply Chain Management In the article Sustainable supply chain management and the transition towards a circular economy: Evidence and some applications there has been a detailed discussion about the importance and necessity of sustainability in supply chain management (Genovese et al., 2017). Environmental concern is another issue for sustainable development in Supply Chain Management (Dubey et al., 2017). Food Panda has reduced the need of paperwork in billing of food and hence given a better environmental and eco friendly option for supply chain management. However certain concerns like pollution caused by the bikes of the delivery executives still persist. Formentini Taticchi (2016) in their article Corporate sustainability approaches and governance mechanisms in sustainable supply chain management shows by evidence how sustainable leaders can induce the practice of sustainability in their followers. This can be adopted by the organisation in case study, Food Panda to induce sustainability all over the organisation structure. Issues With Supply Chain Management And Gaps In the article Logistics and retail management: emerging issues and new challenges in the retail supply chain the authors have noted how there have been emerging issues in terms of logistics in food procurement and distribution. The author has taken example of Tesco which has transformed from a small store to a full fledged retail chain selling grocery and home requirements (Fernie Sparks, 2014). Although there is a certain difference in the type of business that Food Panda does, but the similarity is both of the companies have grown from small to big. The main issue has been the increasing complexity that comes with growth. In countries, which are dominated by Islamic faith, there is a issue of serving Halal food. In the article Halal supply chain management training: issues and challenges the author has discussed about the challenges with receiving Halal certification and and maintaining the standards (Hashim Shariff, 2016). Food Panda operating in a number of Islamic countries has to keep strict vigilance on the Halal standards. According to Wang et al, (2016), the supply chain management has to deal with big data processing systems. Big data can be useful and complicated both at the same time. There has been separate departments and whole consultants dealing with big data. In the case of Food Panda the company has to constantly deal with orders coming in from various platforms, and then distributing the orders to the concerned delivery executives in the right time. Zhong et al, (2016) have also pointed out in their article Big Data for supply chain management in the service and manufacturing sectors: Challenges, opportunities, and future perspectives, that how information from service sectors as well as manufacturing sectors have been becoming huge in volume and complicated by the day. In the article, it was found that many managers in the upper level of the organisations are often oblivious about big data analysis and its outcomes, there is also need for better optimisation at different levels like operati onal, analytical and strategic. In the article A hybrid framework for the modelling and optimisation of decision problems in sustainable supply chain management, the authors have stated the altering and optimising the decision making system of the companies that deal with supply chain management that can lead to better decision making. In the article the author have proposed a combination of mathematical programming and constraint programming (Sitek Wikarek, 2015). Food Panda may well consider the proposed solutions to optimize the business it deals with. In the article A new fuzzy DEA model for evaluation of efficiency and effectiveness of suppliers in sustainable supply chain management context the issues with developing a sustainable supply chain management process has been detailed (Azadi et al., 2015). In order to develop a sustainable model of supply process the Data Envelopment Process (DEA) is proposed to be utilised. Purchasing and distribution process becomes more complicated with the pressures from various agents of the environment and a sustainable process helps in avoiding these. Big data is an emerging field of further research and it is undeniably necessary for companies like Food Panda (Schoenherr Speier?Pero, 2015) Suggestions For Supply Chain Improvement The market conceptual map and the practical tools help to identify the policy issues of supply chain management. This is a process that enhancing the quality standard and deliver proper market information to maintain that chain in an effective way. There can be calamities that disrupt supply chain and improvement has to be done to tackle such situations (Snyder et al., 2016). There are four different areas of supply chain management and all these are creating extraneous factors to influence the business enhancement. Process upgradation is the first factor in the supply chain management and organization has to maintain their process in an evaluative way so that better results can be extracted from that. Product upgrading is another way the organization concerns about this and they can change the old product to a new one so that customers also get attached to the innovative product. Functional upgrading is a mix of operational activities that conducted by the organization and enhance t he external market of the company. As asserted by Shukla, Garg Agarwal (2011), the functional operation includes all the logistic facilities, resource management, and finance and distribution issues to cover up. Hence, all the operational sections are co-ordinated by this segment. The last section influences the entire chain or channel upgradation and this enhances to switch the production from one end to another. The process also calculates the new market entries and tries to channelize a new product in the business market. As commented by Colicchia Strozzi (2012), Improvement in food quality and meeting customer expectation is a major aspect of the company. The management network is interconnected with the provision of product and service packages from the organization. Conclusion Food Panda has been very successful in transforming the system of food delivery on earth. The company has redefined how the practice of supply chain management can be utilised at an optimised level to give maximum productive value to the society and the business. However from the above literature reviews that has been done certain issues have been found major of which are the persisting unsustainable mode of transportation of food, managing the delivery executives at a finer level, dealing with big data analytics, and making decisions that are balanced and logical and not just periodical. These gaps and limitations have to be fulfilled by the company by better strategic decision making and more fluid and effective supply chain methods. The literature review discusses about various models and theories of supply chain management and their implementation. These can be utilised in various level of the organisation to give a lean but fit organisational structure to the company. References Ashby, A., Leat, M., Hudson-Smith, M. (2012). Basic Communication Skills at Work Places
Communication is a very key component of any business, job or relationship. It is with a good communication between people or groups that we express our views and thoughts. Most people overlook basic communication skills especially at work places. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Basic Communication Skills at Work Places specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More For entrepreneurs, most of them have affected their businesses either positively or negatively depending on how influential their mode of communication is. Contrary to what I knew and believed over the ages, how one talks to his customers determine the number of customers in his shop (Wrench, McCroskey, Richmond, 2008). The course was significant in many ways. It is in this era that good communication skills are on high demand in work places. Employment counselors have come to this attention and now more emphasis is put on the satisfaction levels of its employees . From the course I learned that language is a powerful force. Verbal communication is one of the key areas that need good communication skills (Schramm, 1954). Having acquired these skills one can speak clearly and concisely. The qualities of a good communicator include speaking clearly with clear pronunciation so as the addressees get the information clear and easy to understand. A good communicator also practices turn taking. He should talk and let others talk too. The main goal of any communication is to reach an understanding. This is achieved when the parties talk and give chances to others to express their views too. From the course study another critical area in relation to verbal communication is the choice of language. The today business world has grown to be diverse, employing staffs from all over the world. Therefore, for one to make effective communication, he/she has to be knowledgeable of the language he chooses to use. It will be of no use addressing a Chinese grou p of staffs in Swahili. As thus, the communicator must make a proper choice of language. Being this significant, it is therefore advisable that communicators at job places evaluate their verbal communication skills. Is it their presentation, choice of language or their speech that they should improve on? This can be determined by asking a trusted colleague for advice (Baluska, Marcuso, Volkmann 2006). Advertising Looking for essay on communication strategies? Let's see if we can help you! Whichever the cases, speaking skills are important and should be taken seriously especially at job places that largely depend on these skill. Conveying messages in written form is another skill of communication. Unlike verbal communication, written communication may be a bit technical as it involves issues of grammar and spellings that are a bit diverse (Baluska , Marcuso, Volkmann (2006). A good written work should be free from spelling and grammar mistakes. As such, a good communicator should have a wide knowledge of grammar and the general flow of language. Most people believe that good writing is a talent. However, it is a skill that can be learned by anybody. With present diversity in business as a result of globalization, most official transactions are done through written documents. These documents are very vital and need maximum accuracy. Written communication can be improved by attending colleges for evening courses on the subject. Similarly, one can better his/her grammar as well as business writing through getting guidance from a colleague who is an excellent writer. The course in study was very significant as we learned on the basic writing principles. A good written communication should be goal oriented with proper grammar and flow. Listening is the other communication skill that is equally vital. As stated earlier, the main reason of communication is to effectively convey information. This information is always aimed at an addressee who is expected to give a feedback by reacting accordingly. As such, a good communicator should give the addressee the opportunity to express themselves. This is vital in building relationships between involved parties that result into the success at work. Therefore, both addresser and addressee should focus their full attention to what the speaker is saying. Where improvement is needed, one can use audiotapes or videotapes to train on their listening. The above skills are examples of key communication skills. Most people are not knowledgeable as fur as these skills are concern. Contrary to what most people think and I too thought, basic communication skills are the key determinant of the general success of the business. Some entrepreneurs think stoking their businesses and having learned staffs as the only key investments to put into the business (Berlo, 1960). Advertisi ng We will write a custom essay sample on Basic Communication Skills at Work Places specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, there have been cases where major organizations have fallen down the value chain while under the watch of high profile managing directors. This has been so because of poor communication skills between staffs. From the course, my knowledge on communication skills has grown giving me the desire to explore more on the impact of good communication skills on the general output of the business. Being a young entrepreneur, my goals are to run an influential business both socially and financially. This will call for both my personal, financial and professional dedication. With courses such as that offered at Walden University one can get the skills concerning social responsibility to theses goals. With better communication, I can manage an influential business organization and meet my dreams. References Baluska, F., Marcuso, S., Volkmann, D. (2006). The History of Vending Machines
The History of Vending Machines Vending or automatic retailing, as the process of selling merchandise via automated machine is increasingly known, has a long history. The first recorded example of the vending machine comes from the Greek mathematician Hero of Alexandria, whoà invented a device that dispensedà holy water inside Egyptian temples.à Other early examples include small machines made of brass that dispensed tobacco, were found inà some taverns in England aroundà 1615.à In 1822, an Englishà publisher and bookshop owner namedà Richard Carlile built a newspaper dispensing machineà that allowed patrons to purchase banned works. And it was inà 1867 that the first fully automatic vending machine, whichà dispensedà stamps, appeared.à Coin-Operated Vending Machines During the early 1880s, the first commercial coin-operated vending machines were introduced in London, England. Invented in 1883 byà Percival Everitt, the machines were found at railway stations andà post offices, as they were a convenient way to purchaseà envelopes,à postcards, andà notepaper. And in 1887, the first vending machine servicer, theà Sweetmeat Automatic Delivery Company, was founded.à In 1888, the Thomas Adams Gum Company introduced the very first vending machines to the United States. The machines were installed on the elevated subway platforms in New York City and sold Tutti-Fruiti gum. In 1897, the Pulver Manufacturing Company added animated figures to its gum machines as an added attraction. The round, candy-coated gumball, and gumball vending machines were introduced in 1907. Coin-Operated Restaurants Soon, vending machines were available that offered almost everything, including cigars, postcards, and stamps. In Philadelphia, a completely coin-operated automat restaurant called Horn Hardart was opened in 1902 and stayed opened until 1962. Such fast-food restaurants, called automats, only took nickels and were popular among strugglingà songwriters andà actors, as well as celebrities of that era.à Beverage Vending Machines Machines that dispensed drinks go as far back as 1890. The very first beverage vending machine was located in Paris, France and allowed people to buy beer wine and liquor. In the early 1920s, the first automatic vending machines started dispensingà sodasà into cups. Today, beverages are among the most popular items sold through vending machines.à Cigarettes in Vending Machines In 1926, an American inventor named William Rowe invented the cigarette vending machine. Over time, however, they became increasingly less common in the United States due to concerns over underage buyers. In other countries, vendors have addressed the issue by requiring that some sort of age verification, such as a drivers license, bank card or ID be inserted before a purchase can be made. Cigarette dispensing machines are still common inà Germany, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Japan.à Specialty Vending Machines Food, beverages, and cigarettes are the most common items sold in vending machines, but the list of specialty items sold by this form of automation is almost endless, as a quick survey of any airport or bus terminal will tell you. The vending machine industry took a big jump around 2006 when credit card scanners started to become common on vending machines. Within ten years, almost every new vending machine was equipped to accept credit cards. This opened the door to the sale of many high-priced items through vending machines. Here are just some of the specialty products that have been offered via vending machine:à Fishing baitOn-line internet timeLottery ticketsBooksElectronics, including I-pads,à cell phones, digital cameras, and computers.à Hot foods, such as french fries and pizzaLife insuranceCondoms and other contraceptivesOver-the-counter drugsMarijuanaAutomobiles Yes, you read that last item correctly.à In late 2016, Autobahn Motors in Singapore opened a luxury car vending machine that offered Ferrarià andà Lamborghinià cars. Buyers clearly need hefty limits on their credit cards.à Japan, Land of the Vending Machines Japan has gained a reputation for having some of the most innovative use of vending machines, offering machines that offer products including fresh fruits and vegetables, sake, hot foods, batteries, flowers, clothing and, of course, sushi. In fact, Japan has the highest per capita rate of vending machines in the world.à The Future of Vending Machines A coming trend is the advent of smart vending machines that offer things like cashless payment; face, eye, or fingerprint recognition,à and social media connectivity. It is likely that the vending machines of the future will recognize your identity and tailor their offerings to your interests and tastes. A beverage vending machine, for example, may well recognize what you have purchased at other vending machines all around the world and ask you if you want your usual skim latte with a double shot of vanilla.à Market research projects that by 2020, 20% of all vending machines will be smart machines, with at least 3.6 million units knowing who you are and what youd like.

Gender identity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Gender identity - Essay Example These stereotype environmental effects also evolve with time as the trends in recent decades have seen changes in gender behaviors and roles. Today, there is an expectation that women will show a more feminist and assertive side, while can now show a more compassionate and softer feminine side (Blakemore et al 23). Rather than reinforcing the aspect of nurture, however, this shows that one should not try too hard to nurture a child to conform to the environment. Therefore, nature must be more important in gender identity development because the child is born with a pre-determined identity. Modern research and science have contended that gender identity is not a choice made consciously. Rather, it is a result of factors in oneââ¬â¢s biological make up, such as the difference in size of specific brain areas, genetics, and hormone levels. There is evidence suggesting that genetics plays a critical role in sexual identity. Sexual identity is wired into infantââ¬â¢s brains as they d evelop because of these genetic factors. For example, there are various genes involved in brain development that are active during sexual organ development. Infants and young toddlers show typical differences in gender identity (Blakemore et al 24), which suggests that gender is the first and most important player in gender identity development. Youngsters will normally start identifying with their gender before they reach mid-childhood (Blakemore et al 32). Their awareness of being a girl or boy starts in the initial year of their life by the tenth month of their lives, especially as they become mildly aware of their genitals. By the time children are two years of age, they begin to realize the physical differences between girls and boys, while it is possible for them to call themselves a girl or boy by the time they are three, acquiring a better and stronger concept of the self-concept. The gender identity of the child is already established and stable by the time they are four ye ars of age (Blakemore et al 32). By this time, it is possible to say that they know that they will always be girls or boys. It is also possible for anyone to observe a behavior and classify it as being ââ¬Å"girlishâ⬠or ââ¬Å"boyishâ⬠. For example, without being nurtured, boys prefer playing with toy guns and truck-cars, prefer science and math, are more active physically and more aggressive, and possess better hand-eye coordination and spatial reasoning (Blakemore et al 33). Girls, on the other hand, prefer cooperative play and dolls, have better motor skills, learn to talk and read earlier, and possess more empathy and emotions. Most of these things are inborn and innate without any need to teach them. This shows that nature has an important role in shaping gender identity. Even when parents choose to treat their children in a gender-neutral manner, the results are always according to nature (Blakemore et al 33). For example, a parent who insists on her young girls pl aying with trucks will find that her daughters refer to the trucks as mommy trucks that are on the way to pick their children from baby-care. On the other hand, a boy given a truck will fill it action heroes, while racing it all over the playing area and making noises of squealing tires. This is most certainly due to nature, which pre-determines the gender identity

MLA Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
MLA - Essay Example The organization needs are that its services marketed, customers serviced and revenues earned. A units or divisions targets and objectives will be achieved by following a strategy and implementing it. How making the goals and objectives public will aid in this seems doubtful. At the most it may serve the overall objective of the company of being transparent in its dealings with its customers. Sharing company's objectives on issues like profitability may be even unwise. At the operational level, customers would be more interested in the level of service he receives and the value he derives from his purchase of services. Information on targets and objectives will be irrelevant for the existing customer. A new customer is unlikely to walk in after reading the objectives now made available to him, if at all in the first place he is induced to read it. Making the customers aware of the objectives is a subtle marketing exercise. If the manager in Thailand decides to target high net worth individuals and wants to add them to his account, surely the wrong thing to do would be to post it on the notice board. An organizations strategic intent and image is better conveyed through its promotional efforts, especially if it has unique and differentiated services to offer (focus on supporting technologies related to better environment). Making public short term and medium term goals could supplement such specific service offerings or be part of promotional efforts. Ultimately the process of creating new customers and retaining them is through a branding process. A customer will associate himself with a brand that identifies his needs and serves him beyond his expectations every time he comes for a service or a product. Banks and Financial services operate in an oligopolistic market and availability of mundane unit/division level information on the objectives is of no use to customers or potential customers. On the contrary such disclosures may aid competition by having information available in advance and draw up its strategies and plans to counter the moves of HSBC. This could create problems to mangers at operational level to achieve their business goals and targets. Overall there does not seem to be any advantages for HSBC to disclose its unit level and division level medium and short term objectives. Any communication to the public at large on such issues should be done as a promotional issue. Would you recommend that HSBC use the MBO process to reward investment bankers and analysts according to results, even though key factors influencing performance can't be precisely predicted or controlled Explain The typical investment banking functions of an organization is to provide advisory services related to the finance of the company, which are strategic in nature. This includes services such as mergers, acquisitions and divestures, management of public issues, management of cross border funds, fund management, fund rising. "Investment banking is frequently used as a catch-all term. In reality, banks are made up of many divisions and investment bankers perform a range of different functions. Traditionally, investment banking

Religion in The Lord of the Rings Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Religion in The Lord of the Rings - Essay Example J.R.R. Tolkienââ¬â¢s The Lord of the Rings has always been a highly regarded book among fans and critics alike, but when it was made into a movie trilogy it became a cultural phenomenon. The themes in The Lord of the Rings are powerful and universal in their nature and although religion is not explicitly mentioned, religious undertones can be observed throughout both the book and the movie. Urang agrees when he states, ââ¬Å"The Lord of the Rings, although it contains no ââ¬ËGodââ¬â¢, no ââ¬ËChristââ¬â¢, and no ââ¬ËChristiansââ¬â¢, embodies much of Tolkienââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëreal religionââ¬â¢ and is a profoundly a Christian workâ⬠(180). Perhaps the success of The Lord of the Rings as a religious medium is due to the fact that it is subtle in its Christian themes and isnââ¬â¢t what one might call a ââ¬Å"preachyâ⬠Christian book. One theme that we find throughout The Lord of the Rings is the longing that many of the characters have to return to a former age where the world was a better and happier place. For instance, Gimli longs to see the former glory of the home of his ancestors. The elves also long for a return to the Elder Days before evil and darkness came into the world. Basically, there is an overall tone that the world is in a ââ¬Å"fallen state.â⬠... Because Christians believe the world is in a broken and evil state, there is a need for someone to rise up and save the world from permanent darkness and despair. Three characters in the Lord of the Rings who fit this ââ¬Å"Saviorâ⬠role are Gandalf, Aragorn, and Frodo. Gandalf is very God-like and is similar to Jesus. When he falls in Moria, he descends to the lowest parts of the earth. He then has a great struggle with an evil foe. When he defeats the Balrog, he is at the peak of a mountain. Later, he is transformed and becomes Gandalf the White. Similarly, as the Bible says, Jesus Christ descended below all things so that he could rise above all things. After he ascended to heaven he returned to earth as a resurrected and exalted being. Gandalf is also Christ-like in that he guides and counsels Frodo and other members of the fellowship along their journey. Similarly, Christians believe that Christ is always with us, guiding and counseling with us in our own lives. As Frodo s ays in the movie, The Fellowship of the Ring, ââ¬Å"I will take the ring to Mordor, though I do not know the way.â⬠To which Gandalf responds, ââ¬Å"I will help you bear this burdenâ⬠(2001). Christians believe that Christ does something similar when we choose to embark on a worthy task; he bears our burdens for us so the journey is not so difficult. Another instance where Gandalf shows Christ-like attributes is when he casts out the presence of Saruman from the King, Theoden. This is similar to the Bible when Christ displays his ability to cast out devils. After Gandalf casts off Sarumanââ¬â¢s influence, Theoden is healed and his mind is cleared. Christ is also a great healer and restores people to their proper selves. Aragorn possesses

Work and employment
Work and employment Work is the most important thing in life. From all the trouble, for all the ills you can find only one escape at work. Hemingway Life without work is not possible. People spend most of life time at work, position at work shows persons position in life, good career position shows persons achievements in life. Also work is persons identity: it means that profession and sphere of work influence person the most, it determines his knowledge, his view points and also a way to show who a person is. Work is something where people constantly discover themselves, their potential, their character and talants it is a mean of self-identification. It is necessary to point out the view of sociologist William Julius Wilson about the impact of employment on people: In the absence of regular employment, a person lacks not only a place in which to work and the receipt of regular income but also a coherent organization of the present that is a concrete system of expectations and goals.Regular employment provides the anchor for the spatial and temporal aspects of daily life.It determines where you are going to be and when you are going to be there. In the absence of regular employment, life, including family life, becomes less coherent.Persistent unemployment, and irregular employment hinder rational planning in daily life, a necessary condition of adaptation to an industrial economy. (Dubin, R 1998) The work a very important part of life, a working man gets colleagues, perhaps with friends, he has a sense of community with fellow workers, the purpose and schedule of the day, its status allows us to determine among others, gives a sense of dignity, a pride in personal achievements. Most every conversation with a previously unknown person begins with the words: In what area do you work?. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, published by the United Nations, the right to work is one of the most important rights of every person. However, this right is not always guaranteed. Job stability depends on many things starting with the state of the local economy and ending the situation in the world market.Nevertheless, when people lose their jobs or when they face this danger, the consequence are often protests, riots and strikes. What is a good job?Of course, everyone has their own opinion on this issue. For some good work is the use of advanced technology, freedom of ideas and participation in future projects. For someone a stable job, a good team and career prospects. Moreover, one of the key points of the company is to create better conditions for work, which correspond to the expectations of employees. The role of work in human and social development lies not only in creating the material and spiritual values, but that in the work man himself reveals his ability to acquire useful skills, complements and enriches the knowledge. The creative nature of work is reflected in the emergence of new ideas, advanced technologies, more sophisticated and high-performance tools, new products, materials, energy, which, in turn, lead to the development needs. While working people enter the social and labor relations, interacting with each other. Social relations allow to determine the social significance, role, place and social position of individuals and groups. It is important to point out the main reasons of importance of work. Economical reasons: work is a mean of earning for each person. Employment means a stable earning to person, his financial independence, and confidence in good and safe life. Nowadays employment gives also a lot of social guarantees and assurances, like medical insurance, paid vacation and so on. Employers often try to create better conditions for work of talented and skilled professionals, offers a high salary and a variety of incentive programs for employees.Employers are concerned about creating comfortable conditions for work, pay for lunch and sports activities for employees these are social and economic preferences of employed people.. Psychological reasons : work not only generates income but also contributes to psychological well-being.The work satisfies the desire to be a useful member of society and have meaning in life.In addition, from it to some extent depends on self-esteem.Therefore, someone who has more money than enough to meet their needs or who are eligible to retire, still prefers to work.Yes, work is so important that its absence usually entail serious social problems. The word work has always been associated with emotions. As a psychologist I. EB Duvoye said: Going back to work, you should be pleased by the work itself and from the fact that the world needs it. With these lives the heavens, and they are as close as you can to reach them. Without this with work that youhate, which is solid boredom, and which does not need the world your life hell. () Sociological reasons: social activity of the same importance for the maintenance of human health, as sports, diet or medication. Each person understand how important it is to be in a social group and identify themselves with any particular group. The study of British and Australian scientists published the London newspaper The Daily Express shows that active communication within different social groups and communities reduces the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke and even influenza. Many diseases, first of all, are the psychological consequence of lack of positive communication rights. (Dubin, R 1998) When person is employed, he fulfills certain economic and social role in the society. Different people can fulfill different kinds of work, and it is important to note that all the professions and all workers are important for society. Also, work and employment are connected with the term social division of labor the process of separating different types of work between different members of society and social groups, the simultaneous coexistence and interaction of different types of work. So, being employed person gets a certain position in the society, he becomes of certain value and importance for society. On the professional basis people unite together in r groups, that is always people engaged in the same type of work.So when person chooses his working sphere and place, he becomes accepted into a certain group of people with their own ethical norms, rules, principles, values and lifestyles. Also, employment and work make people dependent on society and country, on economic and political situation in it. Employed person becomes dependent on countrys policy of employment, he begins to have certain rights and responsibilities. So, work and employment make people both dependent and independent, but anyway work is an integral part of human life. Works cited: Woodd M. 2000. Social Work Environment :: essays research papers
à à à à à I live in Hamilton County of Cincinnati, Ohio. I am originally from Toledo, Ohio, but decided to attend the University of Cincinnati (UC). There are currently more than 500 degree programs available at UC. UC runs year round quarters; there are three ten week quarters (September until June), and one ten week summer quarter (June until September). The student to faculty ratio is 19:1, based on a full-time equivalent. As of fall, there were 33,342 total students; 26,054 undergraduates and 7,288 graduate and professional students. There were 3,904 African American students and 1,556 international students. I live in a residence hall (aka à ¡Ã °dormà ¡Ã ±). I live on the seventh floor of Calhoun Residence Hall. It is located on 240 Calhoun St. directly across from all the fast food franchises, significantly Arbyà ¡Ã ¯s. There are four other normal dormitories: Siddall, Daniels, Dabney, and Sawyer. There are two residence halls that are especially for graduate students, and international students. Calhoun is located directly across from Siddall. The other six residence halls are located on the other side of West campus mainly located on Jefferson Avenue. There is a new residence hall consisting of six different buildings being built for next year. It will be called Jefferson hall and only upper classmen will be permitted to live in it. It will be suite-style, meaning there will be a full bathroom and living area within each room. Calhoun is thirteen floors; one floor is a study lounge, and the remaining twelve are resident floors. Since Calhoun is co-ed by floor this year, there ar e eight floors of men and four floors of women. I live on the seventh floor and I share my room with one other woman. In my room, there are two beds (which are bunked), a refrigerator, two closets, two dressers, and two desks. On each floor, there is a small kitchen area. In the kitchen, there is a stove/oven, sink, drinking fountain, small table, and a microwave. There is a bathroom on each floor in which only the sex of that certain floor are permitted inside. In each bathroom, there are four toilet stalls, ten shower stalls (which are individual), and eight sinks. In addition, on each floor of Calhoun, there is one single room. In this room lives only one individual, however, the cost of that room is $300 more per year than the cost of the double rooms.
